This article walks you through the specific steps to open an account and register for the CMT Level I exam. The information was current before the December 2022 exam, so there may be some changes for later exams.
Step 1: Create an account on the CMT Association website
To register for the CMT Level I exam, you first need an account with the CMT Association
– Go to: https://cmtassociation.org/
– Click Login, then choose “Join the CMT Association”.
Fill in your basic details in each field below. Once everything is complete, scroll to the bottom and choose “CREATE A FREE ACCOUNT“.
An email will then be sent asking you to confirm. Once you click the confirmation link, you have an account with the CMT Association.
Step 2: Register for the CMT Level I exam
Once your account is set up, log in to the website again, click CMT Program and choose CMT Level 1.
You will be taken to the CMT Level I page, which shows the costs and registration windows:
- Early registration: 15 June – 9 August 2021: $295 for members and $470 for non-members.
- Standard registration: 10 August – 4 October 2021: $395 for members and $570 for non-members.
- Late registration: 5 October – 15 November 2021: $595 for members and $770 for non-members.
Choose “Register Now” to continue.
A window will now show information on all three CMT exams (Level I to Level III), with the prices and dates for early, standard and late registration. You can skip this and scroll down the page.
Choose “Continue Registering For This Event”.
You will be taken to the fee information for each level’s exam. The first line is the early-bird fee for Level I candidates who are not CMT Association members (if you want to become a member, you pay an additional fee; otherwise you can skip it). It includes:
- Program enrollment fee: $250. This is a one-time fee; after that you only pay the exam fee.
- Early-registration exam fee for non-members: $470
Check that the name on your account matches your ID; if it does, click “Yes”.
Scroll to the bottom, tick the “Agree” box and choose “Continue”.
Step 3: Pay the exam fees
After choosing “Continue” in Step 2, you will be taken to the payment window. Check the total (the system calculates it for you automatically), then choose “Pay With a Credit/Debit Card”. Enter your card details and choose Continue.
Note: the “Pay with your bank account” option is only available to candidates with a US bank account.
Finally: click Continue and complete the payment
Once payment is complete, you will receive a confirmation email from the CMT Association that your exam registration is complete.
Congratulations, you have completed your exam registration. However, at this point you have only finished 80% of the process. To complete the remaining 20%, you need to book your exam date and time, test location and exam format with the testing provider Prometric.
Currently in Vietnam, candidates can register to sit the exam in person at two locations, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Detailed instructions for booking a test location are included by Prometric in the exam registration confirmation email. Please check your email and follow the instructional video.
Those are all the steps to register for the CMT exam programme as a non-member, as the author has no experience registering as a member and has not paid the membership fee. We hope this article helps those registering for the CMT Level I exam for the first time.
